THE MYTH OF EPIPHANY

Another tradition that ends the season of Christmas is Epiphany, a time when we sing: “We three kings of Orient are/Bearing gifts we traverse afar”. According to the Bible, ‘After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”’ Nowhere does it say that the three men were kings, but Magi, that translates to “wise men”. Also, there is no evidence to suggest that they visited the Son of God in the manger, but could have come anytime before he turned one year old. Also, their names or place of origin are never mentioned.
