JESUS’ BIRTHDAY MYTH
One of the greatest myths to surround Christianity is the actual date of Jesus’ birth. More and more Biblical scholars are pointing to the fact that December 25th was chosen as the day because it was originally a pagan festival for the sun god, and they wanted to divert public attention from that. Within the scriptures itself are many clues – Jesus was born just after the census is taken by the government, that would fall in September-October, shepherds were grazing their sheep in the fields – that doesn’t happen in the winter but during harvest time and most importantly, nowhere in the Bible does it distinctly mention “wintertime”. In all probability, the Savior was born in a manger in the autumn months of September-October.
